Our Philosophy

Nature Based - Reggio Emilia Inspired - Bilingual - Anti-Racist

Little Roots Academy provides an early childhood education that fosters a child’s love and respect for themselves, for others, and the world we live in. Through a learning environment that encourages open exploration and free play, Little Roots meets children where they are while naturally developing their cognitive, physical, and social-emotional skills.

Our goal is to support children’s innate sense of wonder, love of learning, and respect for nature and the cultures of the world.

What does it mean to be “Reggio Emilia-inspired”?

Little Roots Academy is inspired by the educational approach developed by Loris Malaguzzi in Reggio Emilia, Italy. The Reggio Emilia approach centers the family and local community in the curriculum. As such, preschools outside of the Reggio Emilia province of Italy may label themselves as “Reggio Emilia-inspired,” following the principles of Reggio Emilia while building themselves around the local community.

As a Reggio Emilia-inspired school, Little Roots Academy takes a whole-child, student-directed approach to learning. Children are respected as brilliant, competent, and curious individuals. As such, students guide the curriculum with their interests, with the teacher designing projects to explore their wonderings. Our learning experiences encourage collaboration and creative expression, and parents are respected and engaged as a child’s primary teacher.
